Our Building Division performs field inspections on all permits issued to verify compliance with the approved plans and ensures all new construction in Tulare is in accordance with the most current codes and that all existing structures are maintained in a safe condition.

To request your inspections, you can call or email the day before you need your inspection:

EFFECTIVE MARCH 1, 2022

Requests for Building Inspections made before 4:00pm, will be scheduled for the following day. Any requests received after 4:00pm will be scheduled for the 2nd day following the call.

Please have ready the Permit Number, the Inspection Item Number and your preference of an A.M. or P.M. inspection time. Although you may request an A.M. or P.M. inspection, there is no guarantee that you will receive an inspection during that time, but our inspectors will do their best to meet your needs.

A valid State Contractors License and City Business Tax Certificate are required.

The approved plans and ALL related documents must be available at the job site during any inspection activity.

BUILDING INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS

Please be aware, permission for the building inspector to access the job site for each inspection must be provided by the owner or contractor at the site (by an adult over the age of 18). 

The inspections card and set of approved plans and supplementary documents must be present, at the job site, in order for the building inspector to perform an inspection.  If the project site cannot be accessed, or if you do not have the plans and/or inspections card, please contact the Building Division at (559) 684-4218 to reschedule.

If your inspection requires the use of a ladder (such as a roof or attic) the ladder shall be provided by the owner or contractor as City Building Inspectors do not carry ladders on their vehicle.

Please note:  Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will be checked upon final inspection.

REINSPECTION FEE
Please be advised that reinspection fees will be assessed:

- For any reinspection after the second inspection for the same work not in compliance with the building codes.

- If the Building Inspector is not provided access to the work to be inspected, and an inspection has to be rescheduled for a later date, counts as one failed inspection.

- If the work for which the inspection was requested is not completed and ready to be inspected when the Building Inspector arrives to the job site, and an inspection has to be rescheduled for a later date, also counts as one failed inspection.
