The Patrol Division of the Tulare Police Department is the largest of all the divisions within the Department. The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to all calls for service within the community. This task is accomplished by having a centralized location answering point for all 911 calls as well as all non-emergency police department calls.  The division is comprised of four patrol shifts and each patrol shift is led by a police Lieutenant as the Watch Commander. The officers' on patrol are supervised by the patrol Sergeant.  

The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to all 911 calls, motor vehicle crashes, first aid calls, man-made and natural disasters, fires, reports of crimes and disorderly person's offenses, as well as incorporating a spirit of cooperation with both the business community and citizens alike.  Officers receive special training in community policing philosophy, interview and interrogation, drug and gang identification and intervention methods. 

Patrol Officers are responsible for initial investigation of all crimes that occur within the City of Tulare.  Investigations that are too intensive or complex are turned over to the Division of Investigation to be continued by a Detective. 

The Patrol Division also utilizes bicycles, motorcycles and plain clothes patrols to complete specific initiatives or to address specific concerns of the community. Additional specialty units within the patrol division consist of: K-9 unit; Traffic UnitS.W.A.T., and Code Enforcement.

The Patrol Division is under the command of the Patrol Captain.
